Ten international students run 380 kilometres from Canberra to Sydney in a single weekend, carrying the stories of a community told it doesn't belong.
THE LOGLINE
THE STORY
In a country where migration has become a political flashpoint, international students have been blamed for a housing crisis, a cost-of-living crisis, and for taking jobs they were told to come here and train for.
Beyond the Run follows ten of them as they attempt something absurd: to run 380 kilometres from Parliament House in Canberra to the Sydney Opera House, in relay, over a single weekend.
Learn the stories of a mother and community organiser, a mature student from Malaysia who knows what it's like to fall and get back up again, a man from Nepal carrying something he hasn't told anyone, and students in their twenties who are still yet to discover themselves. These people all call Australia their home. They run through the night, through fog and rain, through regional towns most of them have never seen, carrying the message of a running group founded on a simple principle, that no one gets left behind.
Led and narrated by Ming Liu, who migrated from China in the early 2000s and runs the first leg, the film moves from International Students establishing a life here in Australia to a finish line in Sydney where families wait with open arms.It may be a film about endurance, but it's really about belonging.
