Writer and Director Dan Sanguineti reveals the behind the scenes stories while making BEYOND THE RUN.

The production crew itself, that captured the runners over several months, and through the non-stop 38-hour shoot itself, were made up entirely of AIE staff and students out of the Canberra and Sydney campuses. Some of whom were my own graduates that I helped train across two years of their film course, and others who were still enrolled during production as part of the work experience opportunities.

It was also essential, to maintain authenticity, that I involved the runners as part of the filmmaking process too. This meant giving them the opportunity to film their own scenes to send to me to use. This allowed me to include moments I would never have been able to predict or capture myself during filming.

I really couldn't have covered 380 kilometres of this country, across 38 hours, without this crew.

They weren't assistants on this production. They were the production.
